Viridien awarded five-year contract to support post-decommissioning monitoring in the UK North Sea

Viridien announced today the award of a five-year contract by Ithaca Energy to deliver an integrated environmental monitoring and marine situational-awareness solution for the Greater Stella Area in the UK North Sea.

The service supports an innovative monitoring approach approved by the UK’s Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (OPRED), combining AIS vessel surveillance using Sercel’s Marlin Vessel Tracking and Alerts (VTA) platform with satellite-based environmental monitoring intelligence from Viridien’s SeaScope service, as an alternative to conventional guard vessel coverage.

The Marlin software platform provides a common operational picture of real-time vessel movements, offshore infrastructure, geofences and automated proximity alerts, while also displaying satellite imagery and interpreted sea surface data from SeaScope.

SeaScope combines advanced automation, metocean data and expert interpretation to provide wide-area surveillance of the ocean surface around offshore infrastructure. It will give Ithaca Energy enhanced situational awareness of any potential releases and their origins and enable them to respond appropriately to potential events associated with its assets and third-party activity.

Bringing this information into a single operational view on the Marlin platform will help operators to proactively manage risks as part of their post-decommissioning monitoring activities.
