Theme 6: Geophysical Techniques for Storage Sites

Carbon Capture to Meet Net-Zero Targets
Carbon capture and storage will play a critical part in achieving net-zero goals. Estimates place required CO2 storage at six to eight gigatons per year to reach net-zero goals by 2050, an increase from the 40 million tons stored annually today. Geoscience not only enables better selection of storage sites, it also can assist in long-term monitoring of subsurface dynamics as carbon is injected.
