AAPG-PESGB Energy Transition Forum
Visit our booth and discover the ways our Geoscience and Digital Science expertise and our Earth Data Library supports and accelerates the sustainable shift to net-zero.
We've also despatched one of our senior geoscientists, Dr Matthew Booth, to speak in the Friday afternoon panel discussion:
The “Skills & Capabilities” session will discuss what is required to meet the skills gap in a rapidly changing energy transition. This will be looked at through the lens of three interrelated perspectives, Industry, Academia and Government, to provide a holistic view and to offer some solutions. To be flexible, adaptable and agile to change will undoubtedly underpin unlocking exciting new opportunities in geoscience!

Meet Our Experts

Dr. Matthew Booth
Matt is a Senior Geoscientist and has worked at CGG for 3.5 years, initially exclusively on projects supporting oil and gas exploration and production. Over the past 2 years Matt has transitioned into the CCUS and subsurface hydrogen energy storage team, where he is passionate about utilising the geology of the subsurface to abate CO2 emissions and has co-authored several articles on the subject.
Matt is an industry mentor for students, is an advisory board member for university research projects and has instigated several academic and industry collaborations. Matt holds a Masters degree and a PhD in geology and has worked extensively in the field of sedimentology and tectonics, both as a consultant and as a post-doctoral researcher.

Dr. Carolina Coll
Dr. Carolina Coll leads all aspects of CCUS technologies and Energy Storage across CGG with worldwide responsibilities supporting CGG’s clients with their Carbon Capture and Energy Storage projects including Hydrogen. In her previous roles Carolina has hold different management positions including as Head of Corporate Reserves at BG group with worldwide responsibilities and more recently with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank, as a Principal Industry Specialist in the Energy Group involved in financing transmission, distribution, storage, and other energy infrastructure projects in emerging countries. Carolina holds a Ph.D. and MPhil in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, and a bachelor’s degree in Physics.
Carolina is a member of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Group of Experts on Gas and Cleaner Electricity, a member of a Task force on Carbon neutrality organized by the UNECE Sustainable Energy Division looking at CCS. She is also the Chair of the Communication Sub-Committee of the Expert Group on Resource Classification UNFC applicable for storage resources.

Dr. Ellie MacInnes
Ellie MacInnes is the Head of Geothermal Science at CGG. Ellie has a PhD in Structural Geology and almost 20 years’ experience in the Energy industry. Prior to joining CGG, Ellie worked in several oil and gas companies where she specialized in Global Exploration and New Ventures.
As Head of CGG Geothermal Science, Ellie combines her subsurface expertise with a conviction for the increasing role that geothermal energy will play in the energy transition. The multi-disciplinary CGG Geothermal Science team has conducted many geothermal projects around the globe, with a particular interest in all aspects of the ‘Geothermal Value Chain’ and a global approach to geothermal resource assessment.

Dave Priestley
Dave Priestley is the VP for Energy Transition & Environment at CGG. Dave studied both mathematics & geophysics at university before joining CGG, with whom he now has almost 28 years of experience across a variety of roles.
CGG’s Energy Transition & Environment teams bring together a dedicated focus across the core businesses of CCS & Energy Storage, Geothermal, Minerals & Mining & Environmental Science. The teams combine a truly exciting blend of existing CGG expertise across the full range of Geoscience & Monitoring disciplines and new subject matter expertise. Dave’s role, in working with the teams, is ultimately to ensure CGG can best support both their existing clients & a whole array of new customers on their net-zero journey.
